We are currently seeking two suitably qualified EHOs to join our Port Health Service team as Port Health Officers.

Southampton is the 3rd largest port in the UK operating 363 days a year. Southampton Port Health Authority is responsible for enforcement of environmental, public and animal health controls.  This includes inspection and clearance of imported foods and official documents and inspection of merchant and passenger vessels for the issue of ship sanitation control/ exemption certificates.

We are a small team of experienced staff and set a high standard in service delivery.

You will be working between two locations – our main office at City Depot and at our Border Control Post within the dock estate. A full comprehensive driving licence is essential in order to travel to carry out every day duties and visit other locations within the Port Health district.

You must have a certain degree of fitness due to the physical nature of job. You will be able to work on your own initiative to deliver our objectives.  Competency in food sampling and inspection work is essential for the Port Health Officers.

Additional information:

  • Please note the salary quoted is based on full time hours (37 hours). 
  • 37 working hours per week
  • 1 x Fixed term 12-month contract
  • 1 x Fixed term 2year contract
