The main function of Environmental Health and Community Safety service is to provide a safe, healthy and attractive environment for all those who live, work or visit the City of Exeter.

We are seeking to appoint two new Environmental Health Technicians to work in our busy Neighbourhoods team. The team covers nuisance, anti-social behaviour and financial assistance. This post provides an opportunity to get involved in areas of work that make a difference to individuals and families and have make a positive impact on neighbourhoods within the city.

Working as part of a small specialist team we are looking to appoint two enthusiastic technicians to assist with the day-to-day work of the team. This will involve dealing with complaints of nuisance and anti-social behaviour from the first point of referral through to resolution, including advising and supporting complainants, witnesses and perpetrators, investigating complaints and seeking informal resolution such as mediation, assertively challenging behaviour or taking legal action.

The successful candidate must possess a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Health and will have previous experience OR in-depth knowledge of the investigation of nuisance and anti-social behaviour complaints and knowledge of the Disabled Facilities Grant process.

The successful candidate will have the ability to prioritise, plan and manage their time effectively, demonstrating the ability to meet demanding deadlines. The successful candidate will also demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and orally to a range of audiences including the public.

Based at the Civic Centre, benefits include an operational car user allowance and flexible working hours. The role will require regular out of hours and weekend working and applicants must be committed to that level of flexibility. The successful candidate is also required to have a full clean driving licence and use of a vehicle for business purposes.

We welcome applications from recent Environmental Health graduates for this role.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Rebecca Padfield, Principal Environmental Health Officer on 01392 265158.
