Our client based in London is recruiting for a Contaminated Land Officer on a long term basis.

 

Your focus, from small basement excavations to large-scale re-developments, will be addressing the issues arising from contaminated soil and polluted watercourses.

As well as reviewing data and carrying out a range of duties to fulfil statutory obligations, you will advise the Planning Department and other parts of the Council on potential land contamination risks and ensure appropriate measures are taken – all with the goal of putting our communities first.

 

Duties

Assist and carry out work activities in accordance with the Division’s Quality Management System (QMS) by participating in QMS projects, internal audits, updating and developing processes, procedures and standard documents.

Deal with the review of planning applications for potential impacts on land quality, notifications, referrals, consultations, schemes, licences as directed.

 

Knowledge and Experience

Detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning guidance and legislation and experience with reviewing planning applications and addressing potential impacts on land quality.

Detailed knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and guidance including Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, The Contaminated Land Regulations and the Environmental Damage (Prevention and Remediation) Regulations 2009.

A thorough understanding of conceptual site models; experience reviewing preliminary risk assessments and intrusive site investigations; and knowledge of quantitative risk assessments, the design and implementation of typical remedial methods/treatments and their verification.

Experience in using a GIS based database and quantitative risk assessment modellings, such as Environment Agency P20, CLEA, RBCA and SNIFFER.

Experience addressing the satisfaction of requirements (e.g. planning conditions) on the relevant large scale major developments/projects for preliminary risk assessments, site investigation schemes, quantitative risk assessments, remediation strategies and verification
