Head of Service Community Safety, Environmental and Domestic Regulation

Full time:  36 hours per week, Permanent contract
Salary:
MG5 £49,716 to £74,564

Bromley Council is ambitious for its residents, and is delivering a transformation programme that challenges the way we do things.

Delivering excellent services in times of reduced resources is never easy, but we believe there are innovative and collaborative solutions still to be found, and we are looking for leaders who can embrace change, provide clear direction and deliver results in challenging times.

Within this role you will lead for Bromley delivering statutory, operational services which are vital to our borough, by leading staff, and giving them clear direction and focus. Reporting to the Assistant Director, you’ll play a key role in the senior management team, alongside the Head of Service for Trading Standards and Commercial Regulation.

The services within remit are Community Safety, the Pollution Team, the Nuisance and ASB Team, the Environmental Enforcement Team and Private Rented Sector Housing Team.

About you

We’re looking for a committed leader with experience of leading large, multi-disciplinary teams, within a politically sensitive setting, and with a commitment to managing staff through change. You will manage revenue budgets well, have great people skills and the credibility and gravitas to lead the teams within your remit to deliver excellence, whilst challenging the status quo and developing alternative delivery models where required.

You’ll need a broad knowledge of the current approaches and sector developments in the field, including Community Safety, pollution, nuisance, ASB, environmental enforcement and private rented sector housing enforcement and HMO licensing. You’ll also need to represent the interests of Bromley when working in partnership with other organisations.

We’re looking for a truly exceptional, engaging leader with excellent communication skills who shares our ambitious plans for the future of our place, its environment and people. If you can inspire staff and partners in these difficult times, we’d love to hear from you.

A degree and/or relevant professional accreditation, preferably in the field of Environmental Health and expert knowledge within at least three of specialisms covered by the services within scope will be advantageous.

Are you up for the challenge?
