We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our Environmental Health team. Leeds City Council is a diverse and exciting place to work, with excellent opportunities to progress your professional career working for one of the largest local authorities in the UK.

We are seeking to recruit an Environmental Health Officer/Senior Technical Officer on a permanent basis. We are looking for people who can engage with communities and businesses, as well as having a real passion for improving public health and protecting the environment.

Depending on your skills, competency and experience, potential work areas include food safety, public health, animal health and welfare, health and safety, commercial environmental protection and commercial nuisance. You can expect a mix of casework, projects and be responsible for appropriate enforcement action.
In addition, your duties will include supporting the delivery of City’s COVID-19 Outbreak Management strategy. This includes investigation of outbreaks associated with workplaces, ensuring business compliance with Covid regulations and supporting our local contact tracing service.
You should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to manage a busy caseload. Whilst you should be able to interpret policy and legislation, a significant proportion of our work involves advice and guidance, so it’s important that you have good influencing skills and can think laterally to resolve problems and deliver outcomes. You will also need to possess a commitment to customer care and reducing health inequalities.

Ideally you will be EHRB registered or have chartered status with the CIEH. However, we actively encourage applications from recent graduates and those working towards chartered status. We can offer all the support you need to develop your career. We will also consider applications from suitably qualified applicants with professional qualifications relevant to Environmental Health.

We offer a competitive salary, generous annual leave, flexi-time, flexible working arrangements and a car mileage allowance.
Working hours are the standard 37 hours per week with the requirement to work flexible hours to meet service requirements.
For more information or an informal discussion about the posts contact Scott Higgins on 0113 3786586 or Ruth Turner 0113 3786568.

We promote diversity and want a workforce that reflects the population of Leeds. Leeds City Council is a Stonewall Top 100 employer, a Mindful employer and a Disability Confident employer.
All new Leeds City Council appointments are made subject to the satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period.
