We have a high commitment to customer care, so it is important applicants have:

  • be able to work as part of a team,
  • possess good IT skills.

All roles cover a 37-hour week worked predominately between the hours of 9am and 5pm Monday-Friday, however work outside these hours will be required from time to time for targeted operations or operational need.

The roles available are:

Environmental Protection Team Leader

Salary £42,186 – £47,745

Contract Type Full Time- permanent

We are searching for a highly motivated, well-organised and innovative self-starter to fill this recently created post. In this challenging role you will lead the team in a diverse range of Environmental Protection functions and be committed to developing and continually improving a high-quality service which encompasses an interesting and varied workload including statutory nuisance and pollution to air, land and water.

It is a small but busy team where the successful candidate will work in a friendly and supportive environment enabling them to expand their knowledge.

This role offers substantial opportunity for the right person. You will need to have good leadership qualities, 3 years relevant experience, possess a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and be EHORB Registered, have experience in enforcement activities and delivering educational initiatives. Ideally you will have experience of supervising and developing teams.

You should be an excellent communicator as you will be expected to develop relationships and routinely liaise with contractors, partners and stakeholders.

Full UK Driving Licence and use of a car for business is essential.

Environmental Health Officer/Senior Environmental Protection Officer

Salary - £35,726 - £41,154

Contract Type - Full Time- permanent

This post is a key part of the Environmental Protection Team covering the areas listed above

The successful applicant would be expected to lead on a specific area of environmental protection cases whilst still carrying a wide case load covering a specified area of the District.

Much of the role involves being out and about undertaking a range of duties to enable the council to fulfil its statutory responsibilities in relation to environmental protection. This includes having responsibility for a defined geographical area and taking a lead role in a specific key area as required by the Environmental Protection Manager, e.g. Public Health Act burials.

You will also 

  • Contribute to the development and review of policies, strategies and procedures to reflect new practices, changes in legislation etc.
  • Liaise with external agencies, Councillors, colleagues and members of the public.
  • Take enforcement action where necessary. This includes preparation of prosecution files, legal notices, reports, schedules and correspondence etc.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings as required on matters relating to environmental protection.

Full UK Driving Licence and use of a car for business is essential.

Environmental Enforcement Officer

Salary - £20,352- £23,327

Contract Type - Full Time- permanent

This position falls within the Environmental Crime Team and involves being out on the District conducting initial inspections of things like fly-tipping and waste accumulations, patrolling for environmental offences such as littering and fog fouling, issuing fixed penalty notices, dealing with stray dogs and carrying a case load of environmental crime cases including the preparation of prosecution files.  

We are looking for self-motivated and enthusiastic individual, preferably with recent experience in Environmental Crime or an enforcement role. The successful candidate will be educated to GCSE grade A-C, or equivalent, in Maths and English and have a full driving license.
