Environmental Health Officer
35 hours per week

We are looking for an individual to carry out the full range of day to day functions and duties of an Environmental Health Officer in accordance with legislative requirements and the Council’s policies and priorities as directed. The successful candidate will be required to provide a high-quality service to the public, the business community and external organisations.
A proven record of relevant experience in food safety, health and safety at work, environmental protection, public health and other general duties relating to environmental health are all essential criteria for this position. Salary awarded (including market supplement) will be dependent on experience.
You will be qualified to BSc (Hons) standard in Environmental Health or equivalent. A Diploma in Environmental Health of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland or equivalent, and evidence of on-going Continual Professional Development in order to maintain membership of REHIS or CIEH are also essential.
An excellent communicator, you will have the skills and ability to communicate with officers/councillors and members of the public, at all levels. You will have a strong commitment to excellent customer service and be able to deal effectively with difficult situations achieving positive outcomes.
A working knowledge of IT applications, particularly in relation to Microsoft Office and other database management systems is essential (a working knowledge of CIVICA Authority Public Protection software would be an advantage).
This post is subject to basic Disclosure Scotland clearance.
You will need to be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
