Environmental Health Service Manager

£46,429 – £57,035 pa, dependant on experience

Full time, 37 hours per week • Permanent

Ref: WM0482-2104

It is an extremely exciting time to join the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead with our service going through many changes and enhancements including leading on the response to COVID-19. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the need to be both proactive and flexible in the way we handle infectious diseases, and as such, we have created additional posts within the service that will be vital to the way we limit the future spread of this disease, plus other infections.

As the service manager for the team, you will help us work collaboratively with Public Health colleagues to control infectious disease transmission risks and minimise – and ideally erase – local outbreaks. Central to this challenge will be the need to educate the public and businesses on transmission risks and relevant legislation, offering advice and guidance in order to improve local standards.

The aims of the Environmental Health Service are to protect the wellbeing and quality of life for local people, protecting the environment and helping ensure legal compliance with various aspects of Environmental Health and Protection legislation. The team are responsible for the enforcement of the legislative controls for food hygiene, food sampling, infectious diseases, private water supplies, licensing of animal welfare activities, the registration of skin piercing activities and the wider health and safety requirements within commercial settings regulated by LAs. The team also deals with all noise, nuisance and contaminated land enquiries, permit and licence applications and provides expert technical advice across the council.

You will lead the environmental health and the environmental protection team to ensure that it delivers a high quality, innovative, people-focused and value for money service, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, your fellow service managers and staff. So, if you are enthusiastic and self-motivated, an experienced manager and are looking to take the next step in your career, we would love to talk to you.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council is geographically set in a major tourism area with tourist attractions including Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse.

As a Royal Borough with the Royal Family on the doorstep, it is a desirable place to live and work. There are excellent transport connections to London (30 minutes by train) from Maidenhead with the Town Hall being a ten-minute walk from the train station. We are currently based predominately from home but as a front-line service, there is still an expectation that you can attend the offices a couple of times a week.

If you wish to discuss this position informally, please contact Tracy Hendren on 07920 070755.
