An exciting opportunity has arisen at Uttlesford District Council for two qualified Environmental Health Officers working within our Environmental Health Service.

For the senior grade, the post holder will be responsible for leading a small but dedicated team of Environmental Health and Technical Officers.

Post 1 Senior Environmental Health Officer (Commercial Team)

Acting as the lead officer for both food and health and safety you must be organised, highly motivated, willing to embrace new ways of working, able to inspire your team and be proficient using IT systems. Having a working knowledge of Uniform, DMS and Enterprise would be a distinct advantage. There may also be the opportunity to become involved in duties relating to the control of imported food at Stansted Airport.

Post 2 Environmental Health Officer / Senior Environmental Health Officer (Environmental Protection)

As a key member of a small multi-disciplinary team you will deliver the team’s reactive and planned workload in relation to air quality, and noise, private water supplies, contaminated land, licensing, planning consultations and private sector housing. At times you may also be asked to investigate statutory nuisances, assist with grants, animal welfare inspections and other tasks to support the wider Environmental Health Service.

It is essential that both post holders have ‘can do’ attitude to work, be self-motivated, flexible, take responsibility for a varied caseload, be an effective communicator and be committed to team working.

For both senior positions, proven management / supervisory experience will be desirable but we will welcome applications from individuals wanting to develop a new managerial aspect to their career.

To apply for both roles, you must hold a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and be EHRB registered. For the Commercial Team position you must also meet Food Law Code of Practice competencies relating to the inspection of food establishments and food.  For the Environmental Protection post, whilst experience in both Environmental Protection and Private Sector Housing is ideal, this is not a requirement and appropriate training and support can be provided.

A full driving licence and access to a car available for work is essential. From time to time there may be a requirement for some out of hours working.

In return for your hard work and contribution, we can offer you a chance to work in a beautiful area of North Essex, fantastic countryside with a mix of towns and villages, a major airport and good access to London and Cambridge. We also have a range of benefits including generous annual leave, home working opportunities, flexi time, free parking, leisure centre discounts, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and more. Take a look at our website for the full range of benefits and support http://www.uttlesford.gov.uk

For an informal discussion on post 1 please contact Tony Cobden, Environmental Health Manager (Commercial) or for post 2 Marcus Watts, Environmental Health Manager (Protection) on 01799 510510

If you are interested in either post, please apply via our online recruitment link which is available on our website https://www.uttlesford.gov.uk/for-jobs/Applying-for-a-job

The closing date for completed applications is 11 April 2021

Interviews will take place week commencing w/c 12 April via Teams or Zoom

CVs will not be accepted.

We positively welcome applicants from all sections of the community.

During the Covid-19 pandemic in order to follow the Government’s advice you will be required to work from home wherever possible, and your working arrangements will be agreed with your line manager.  This will be reviewed as and when Government advice changes and/or the Council agrees new ways of working.
