About the role

We are currently looking to appoint a talented, dynamic and flexible professional as a Senior Environmental Health Practitioner, who will play a key role in the delivery of improved regulatory services for Crawley Borough Council.

Crawley Borough Council is dynamic organisation with an ambitious transformation programme of change, including moving into a new modern Town Hall at the end on of 2021.  The new Town Hall will allow us to embrace a more agile way of working that will allow employees the flexibility to work from the office, home or on the move.

As a member of the Food Safety Team you will carry out proactive and reactive food hygiene inspections and interventions, investigate food complaints and give advice on all food related issues. You will be required to investigate cases of infectious diseases and food borne disease. You will also be involved in the development and delivery of public health initiatives and training.

The successful candidate must have previous operational experience of working within Food Safety and possess the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to be able to undertake investigations, interventions and enforcement in this field.

As a Senior EHO you will be appropriately qualified with a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and be registered with the Environmental Health Officer’s Registration Board or equivalent. You will have previous operational experience in Food Safety and recent Port Health experience would be a distinct advantage.

Additional information

You will also be required to cover Port Health Officer duty functions at Gatwick Airport covering weekday and weekend duties on a rota for which an weekend allowance will be paid. 

A full clean UK driving licence will be a requirement of the role.

An Essential Car User Allowance is payable for this role. Please note this allowance is currently under review and could be subject to change.

Ability to fulfil the criteria required to achieve an airside security pass at Gatwick Airport. See ID Regulations for more information.

Satisfactory clearance of a Basic DBS will be a condition of employment.
