SENIOR TECHNICAL OFFICER – ENVIRONMENTAL HUB x 3 POSTS

Salary:  £34,728 - £39,880 per annum (City Pay Band 6) + Enhanced Rates for night, weekend and bank holiday working

Location: Cambridge City (Mandela House or Grand Arcade)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Average of 37 hours per week, working on a rolling rota to include days, nights and weekends

Closing: 12 noon, 21st April 2021

Our Environmental Health team has an exciting new opportunity for three Senior Technical Officers to join the team in carrying out a full range of duties relating to noise based statutory nuisance, including complaint investigation and assessment visits. The post holder will proactively monitor licensing activities and manage their own caseload of complaints made to the Council as necessary. In addition, the postholder will triage council housing out of hours repair requests as well as providing basic housing options and advice, negotiation of temporary housing and emergency requests at temporary housing units also out of hours.

With responsibility for the operation of technical equipment to measure noise levels as appropriate, you will be expected to interview complainants and offer advice where required. We will also look to you to prepare and serve statutory notices, letters, reports and witness statements, as well as obtaining warrants to enter premises and seizing equipment in accordance with departmental policy. There may be occasions where you are required to attend court or committee. 

Ideally with experience of working with the public and dealing with noise problems; particularly domestic, commercial, construction and industrial, you will be familiar with current relevant legislation relating to the role, including PACE, with the ability to interpret and apply the relevant legislation and legal requirements. However, on the job training will be offered. You will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information in a fair and balanced manner to a variety of people at all levels.   

The successful candidate will be able to work under pressure, be flexible and will have the ability to work independently without close supervision as well as part of a wider team.

Each of the post holders will be required to work on a rolling rota which will comprise of a combination of 3 days on, 3 nights on followed by 3 days off.

An Enhanced DBS check is required for this post.
