As a Senior Environmental Health Officer at Ryedale District Council, you will become part of a small and supportive multi-disciplinary team who strive to deliver an excellent service.  You will be challenged to use your technical and scientific knowledge to maintain a high standard across the service area and seek to drive continuous improvement.

You will be able to use your skills and experience to address a full range of environmental protection matters including noise, air quality, environmental permitting, contaminated land, planning and licensing consultations. You will primarily be responsible for day-to-day delivery of the pollution control functions for the environmental health team.  Candidates must therefore be able to demonstrate recent competence and experience together with a strong record of achievement in Environmental Protection.  Further training in subject disciplines, if required, will be supported.

You will act as the lead acoustics/noise officer for the delivery of the council’s statutory and non-statutory functions where they concern matters relating to environmental noise protection and pollution.  This will include leading on complex investigations of alleged or reported noise nuisance, undertaking acoustic assessments and noise surveys and taking enforcement action where necessary.  An Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Diploma or equivalent postgraduate qualification would be beneficial for this role.

You may also be asked to apply your skills and experience to provide other environmental health functions or to assist the council’s Community Team Officers to provide resilience and inter-operability across the range of environmental health activities.

Using your exceptional customer service skills you will be confident in helping us to achieve our aim of high quality customer- focused service delivery and positive public health outcomes.  You will use your excellent communication skills to build strong collaborative partnerships, be outward-looking team player, as well as be able to negotiate on behalf of the council. IT skills are an essential part of this role as you will be recording your findings and providing detailed reports. You will have the ability to organise your workload and be flexible with your approach, with a practical common-sense approach to the job.  Experience in enforcement work is required.
