Are you a skilled coordinator of environmental action?

Do you want to make a difference?

Role Snapshot… Broadland District Council is committed to making positive local environmental improvements, reducing our own emissions, and action on sustainability and climate change.

Appointing a full-time coordinator to drive our Environmental Strategy is evidence of this.

Your strong project planning, coordinating and people skills will enable you to work closely with local communities and our partners to help shape and drive a variety of environmental projects. This is a delivery focussed role in which we know you’ll be as committed to see positive results as we are.

What you could be part of… Based alongside our team of environmental protection regulatory specialists, the focus is on creating a cleaner, safer, healthier and more sustainable environment. There is no time to waste and we are determined to demonstrate a real impact. We’re building a strong corporate approach with our knowledgeable and enthusiastic officers, passionate and committed elected members, and our communities wanting to see positive environmental action. You will use all your degree-level environmental education (or equivalent) and working experience to provide environmental policy and strategy support, research and advice. Most importantly, though, you will coordinate our projects and action plans through to completion.

The role will be busy and challenging, coordinating with others as you research, plan and administer concurrent projects. We will offer support and guidance all the way, confident that the results you help to achieve mean a lot to local people, inspire further community action, showcase what the council can do and enhance your career.

Working as a One Team for our Councils enables you to be part of an organisation which is proud to deliver high-quality, customer focussed services. Our success comes from us being commercially astute and business-like.  Continuous improvement is also vital and we challenge ourselves to develop new and innovative ways to improve the services that make a real difference to people’s lives.

What you’ll be doing…

  • Coordinating the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the council’s Environmental strategy and action plan
  • Developing and supporting key projects and policies identified in the plan to improve the environmental quality of the District
  • Facilitating effective stakeholder engagement and community involvement in action planning
  • Engaging and building local community participation to generate positive outcomes
  • Providing specialist advice and support on environmental policy and delivery to internal and external colleagues, elected members and the community

You must have…

  • A degree in Environmental Sciences plus applied experience or other relevant discipline, or 5 years demonstrable experience in a relevant environment-related role.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental policy and sustainability, climate change and related matters
  • Ability to work autonomously with confidence as well as being able to work effectively within a team
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills and an ability to communicate key messages to a wide audience.
  • A proven track record of developing and delivering projects from inception to completion

What’s in it for you…

Our package includes:

  • 25 days holiday increasing to 28 days after 5 years service plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part time employees)
  • Opportunity to work your hours flexibly to improve your work life balance (where operationally possible)
  • Employer pension contributions of 15% with the option to make additional voluntary contributions
  • Access to our One Team Rewards scheme including discounts in high street shops and restaurants, employee assistance programme and car lease scheme – with more to come!
  • Payroll giving scheme
  • Regular reviews with your line manager, develop a personal development plan, as well as opportunities to undertake training
  • Compassionate leave and sickness entitlement for times of need
  • Support towards volunteering days in the community and encouragement to be involved with fun activities to raise money for local and national charities.
