We need innovative and “can do” officers to lead / facilitate staff to deliver a range of Council enforcement and intervention activities which bring about improvements for our local communities.

The successful applicants will deal with neighbourhood issues both proactively and in response to high level of customer service demand, providing technical and professional advice to customers. The main areas of the job will focus on anti-social behaviour e.g. noise, private sector housing standards, licensing, air quality, contaminated land, and the regulation of industrial processes. The Community Protection Unit works closely with partners as part of the Neighbourhood Policing Partnership promoting good working relationships. Officers are required to have strong local community commitment, and the ability to participate and deliver actions that make a difference.

 

The service is particularly keen to receive applications from qualified Environmental Health Officers or experienced Enforcement/Technical Officers with a background in:

  • Planning Consultations
  • Private Sector Housing (including HMOs)
  • Environmental Permitting.

Although a track record in aspects of the role outlined above are preferred, full training and support will be given to successful applicants.

The successful applicants will have direct responsibility for investigations, enforcement and other intervention action and monitor performance of staff to ensure quality standards are maintained. Producing, developing, and implementing work instructions, procedures, policies, and market strategies is expected. Support in other work areas will be required from time to time, Out of Hours work will be required from time to time, including emergency response. Voluntary paid participation in the regular working rota’s providing the out of hours noise & licensing enforcement service. The Out of Hours rota for noise monitoring purposes is currently on a paid basis in addition to the basic salary.

All applicants must be enthusiastic, good team workers with commitment, flexibility, capable of working on their own initiative and able to manage finance and keep budgets on target. The applicant produces reports to all levels of management and Elected Members, including recommendations for improvement or future action.

The successful applicants will deliver against personal and team targets, handle complaints and produce reports.

From 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2022 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a weekly / monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded of three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part-time).
