SENIOR PORT HEALTH INSPECTOR/PORT HEALTH INSPECTOR (EHP) (multiple posts)

Salary: Senior Port Health Inspector from £37890 to £40876, Port Health Inspector from £32910 to £35745, essential car user allowance and uniform.

Hours: Up to 37 hours per week.  The posts may include shift patterns with weekend/bank holiday working.

The joint board Authority is funded by Hull City Council, North Lincolnshire Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council and has one of the largest geographical areas set in beautiful East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.  The expanding and thriving Humber port facilities form the largest ports complex in the UK. Port health has seldom had a higher profile and the work is both challenging and rewarding. The Authority is preparing for UK border readiness and will have responsibility for undertaking imported food control at two large new Border Control Posts on each side of the Humber estuary.

Senior Port Health Inspector/Port Health Inspector:  We are seeking highly motivated, flexible, and career-minded Environmental Health Practitioners to join our small, professional, and multi-functional team.   Whilst the post-holders will primarily be responsible for monitoring imports of food products of animal origin and foods not of animal origin including the application of documentary, identity and physical checks, there will be opportunities to carry out other environmental health functions commensurate with your qualification and experience, including food premises inspections, ship sanitation inspection, water sampling, environmental permits, infectious disease control and responding to emergencies as part of the Authority’s civil contingencies responsibilities.  You will participate in the Authority’s standby service, for which an additional payment is made.

For the Senior role, it is essential that you have had recent experience, preferably in imported food control or food safety, as you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities at one of the Authority’s two Border Control Posts: assisting with the design and implementation of new working practices, training and driving projects forward.

Both posts demand individuals that are IT proficient, have a keen eye for attention to detail, can work effectively under pressure and are dedicated to our responsibility of protecting public, animal and environmental health in the Humber region.

Applications from newly qualified, or those about to qualify, will be welcomed for the Port Health Inspector posts.

For an informal discussion please contact Laurence Dettman, Chief Port Health Inspector or Sally Johnson, Deputy Chief Port Health Inspector on the number below.

A clean driving licence and use of reliable transport is essential.  Applications will only be accepted on official application forms which are available on request, with a job description, from the Chief Administrative Officer annemarie.hamil@hullandgoolepha.gov.uk or by telephoning 01482 324776.

The closing date for applications is Monday 15 February 2021.
