Senior Environmental Health Officer

Contract: 37 hours / Temporary (Maternity Cover)
Salary: £38,890 - £40,876
Location: Aberaeron, Ceredigion
We are looking to recruit a Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our busy Public Protection service on a temporary, full time basis, based at our Aberaeron office. We are looking for an individual with at least 5 years experience of public service provision, and relevant environmental health enforcement experience.
This is an exciting new role within the service providing the opportunity to act as an authorized officer of the Council. To be responsible for a full range of professional and specialist duties to ensure the efficient and effective discharge of the Service’s and Council’s duties, policies, procedures and practices in relation to Environmental Health and Public Protection.
On a day to day basis you will: –
- you will manage a team of Public Protection Officers covering all areas of Environmental Health;
- undertake inspections, investigations and surveys in accordance with the Service area policies, procedures and inspection programmes;
- initiate appropriate enforcement action to secure compliance with the relevant statutory requirements. To include the collection and collation of evidence in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act for use in Court proceedings and Tribunal hearings etc. Obtain and execute warrants as required;
- to investigate complex breaches of legislation and to prepare evidence and other material for the instigation of legal proceedings, including the service of statutory notices, and to give evidence in court, public enquiries and tribunals as appropriate;
- respond to all complaints and enquiries in a professional manner, bringing matters to a speedy and satisfactory conclusion. Maintain clear, factual and relevant records as appropriate. Ensure that all recording systems generated by the Service are appropriately maintained.
The post requires a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. Please note that a successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the required standard.
