Environmental Protection Technical Officer

The current salary for this post is:

£24,491- £29,577 per annum   Vacancy Reference: 67_20

Two opportunities have arisen in our busy and successful Public Health & Protection team. We are looking for motivated and forward-thinking people who can manage a fluctuating workload across a range of environmental protection disciplines including anti-social behaviour, environmental crime, private water supplies, statutory nuisance etc, as well as getting involved in project work.

You will have excellent investigatory skills as well as the ability to effectively communicate, sometimes in situations of conflict. You will support senior officers with service requests, inspection programmes and monitoring schedules. We are looking for someone with the confidence and technical knowledge to hit the ground running.

If you meet these criteria and would relish joining an ambitious and dynamic service and you have the determination to help make a difference in our communities then we’d love to hear from you.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, and you should possess good I.T. skills.  We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible team players, who are committed to high standards of customer care and able to work unsupervised and perform well to targets/deadlines.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holders will be required to visit and inspect properties in the district. Reasonable adjustments can be made for those who are unable to drive due to a disability.

The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working Monday to Friday. The post holder must have availability for ad-hoc operational requirements necessitating work in the early morning, evening and occasionally at weekends or on bank holidays.

The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm. These posts will be based at Morecambe Town Hall although currently most staff are based at home.

Lancaster City Council have unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of these roles, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

Excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5% contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.
