Housing Technician

An exciting opportunity has come up to work within the Housing Team on an innovative project in a small area of the district to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and families.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working with private landlords, tenants, partner agencies and the community to improve standards of housing in the private rented sector. You should have an appreciation of the link between housing and health, an understanding of private sector housing issues, and a good knowledge of building construction and improving energy efficiency in domestic dwellings. You will also be expected to have prior knowledge of the workings of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and have experience of regulatory enforcement.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, and you should possess good I.T. skills.  We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible team players, who are committed to high standards of customer care and able to work unsupervised and perform well to targets/deadlines.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holders will be required to visit and inspect properties in the district. Reasonable adjustments can be made for those who are unable to drive due to a disability.

The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working Monday to Friday. The post holder will be required to have availability for ad-hoc operational requirements necessitating work in the early morning, evening and occasionally at weekends or on bank holidays.

 The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm. This post will be based at Morecambe Town Hall although currently most staff are based at home.

Lancaster City Council have unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of these roles, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.
