Lancaster City Council are pleased to offer the opportunity for a motivated and reliable induvial to join the Environmental Health Team.

This is a fixed term contact for 2 years to undertake general duties across our Commercial team covering Food safety, Health & Safety, Infectious disease control, and especially to support the Port Health function as we transition to a regulatory regime outside of the EU. This is a fantastic opening to work within a busy Commercial Protection team with an excellent track record of innovation, commercial development, and enforcement. We can offer the right person a rare opportunity to work on the development and delivery or a new regulatory framework as we rise to the challenge of establishing a new inspection and control regime at the Port of Heysham as well as continue our proactive approach to the current Covid19 pandemic.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, and you should possess good I.T. skills.  We are looking for enthusiastic, responsible team players, who are committed to high standards of customer care and able to work unsupervised and perform well to targets/deadlines.

A full current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holders will be required to visit and inspect properties in the district. Reasonable adjustments can be made for those who are unable to drive due to a disability.

The hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. Staff cover is required each working day during office hours, and the post holder must have availability for ad-hoc operational requirements necessitating work in the early morning, evening and occasionally at weekends or on bank holidays especially as part of the Port Health function.

The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.  This post will be based at Morecambe Town Hall although currently most staff are based at home.

Earlier last year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

Excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5% contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.
