Pollution Control Officer (Environmental Health Officer) – Post Ref: CC446

Salary: Scale 5 to PO1-4, £22,183 to £33,782 per annum (career grade)

37 hours per week, permanent contract

Calderdale is situated in West Yorkshire, nestling in the South Pennines. It is an area of rich cultural heritage, impressive architecture, stunning landscapes and charming towns and villages. With good road and rail links to Leeds and Manchester and beyond, Calderdale is a great place to live, work and visit. Calderdale has a vision for 2024 as a place where you can realise your potential, whoever you are.

Environmental Health is part of the council’s Community Protection Team. This brings together many services that include enforcement as part of their duties under a single service lead. We have a holistic problem-solving approach based on engagement, education and enforcement in order to deliver better outcomes for communities.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who ideally can demonstrate recent competence and experience in pollution control, particularly in environmental permitting and LAQM, but also in noise measurement, contaminated land investigation and commenting on planning and licensing applications. However, we would consider candidates who are currently studying for appropriate qualifications in these subject areas.

You will primarily be responsible for day to day delivery of the pollution control functions for Environmental Health.  Further training in some subject disciplines will be considered, as could training to qualify as an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) for non-EHO applicants.

You could also be tasked to apply your skills and experience to provide other environmental health functions or to assist the Community Protection Team’s wardens, community safety enforcement officers, licensing officers or ASB officers to provide resilience and inter-operability across the range of enforcement activity. You will work closely with statutory, voluntary and community sector partners. Currently our CPT staff are central to delivering Calderdale’s response to the challenges of Covid19 in the Borough.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking officer who is thrives in working as part of a team which is committing to driving forward the service in challenging times.

For an informal discussion about the above post, please contact Ryan Carroll, Principal Officer for Environmental Health, via email ryan.carroll@calderdale.gov.uk.
