The successful applicant will join a small, professional and hardworking team who support each other in delivering the team’s environmental protection functions to protect the health and well-being of the public, animals and the environment.

The role covers extensive and varied subject matter and offers the chance for the successful candidate to utilise their wide range of skills and experience, to manage their own workload, as well as that of a technician. They will also have the opportunity to develop noise, animal welfare and fly tipping specialisms.

We offer a structured and competitive benefits package with relocation and housing subsidy for qualifying candidates. The office is located in the beautiful cathedral city of Chichester and much of the district is covered by areas of outstanding national beauty or the South Down National Park.

Whilst the post holder will primarily be enforcing legislation relevant to Environmental Protection, there will be a requirement on occasion to carry out emergency planning and other Environmental Health functions commensurate with their qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate must be:

  • Ability to make proportionate intervention choices to promote and secure compliance through inspection, investigation, negotiation, advocacy, education and enforcement.
  • Demonstrate excellent acoustics knowledge and experience in a Local Authority setting.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and the ability to work unsupervised with Environmental Protection legislation, regulatory policies and procedures to ensure promotion of good health, quality of life and protect the environment.
  • In possession of a full, valid driving licence and have access to a suitable vehicle.
