37 hours per week

Career Grade 8 – 9

Grade 8 - £35,745 rising to £38,890

Grade 9- £39,880 rising to £42,821

Uttlesford is a thriving predominantly rural District in north-west Essex, 16 miles south of Cambridge. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and qualified Environmental Health Officer or Senior Environmental Health Officer with a good working knowledge in the field of Environmental Protection and/or Private Sector Housing.

As a member of our small multi-disciplinary team you will be involved in a wide variety of service areas include, pollution control, air quality and noise monitoring, private water supplies, contaminated land, licensing, planning consultations and private sector housing. At times you may also be asked to investigate statutory nuisances, assist with grants, animal welfare inspections and other tasks to support the wider Environmental Health Service.

You will work from home initially, although you will be required to travel to Uttlesford to conduct inspections and visits.  A full current driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.

We are seeking a candidate with excellent skills in communication, prioritising and planning. It is essential you have a ‘can do’ attitude work, be self-motivated and willing to get involved in different work streams and take initiative. You must be able to take responsibility for a varied caseload and be committed to team working.

The successful candidate for the Environmental Health position will be a qualified Environmental Health Officer who is wishing to develop professionally and gain experience in a wide range of duties.  To qualify for the Senior Environmental Health Officer position you must be experienced, hold relevant post graduate qualifications, take responsibility for complex casework and be willing to manage staff.

Whilst experience in both Environmental Protection and Private Sector Housing is ideal, this is not a requirement of the post.
