Hyndburn is an attractive area set in the heart of Pennine Lancashire, within easy reach of Manchester, the Lake District and the Coast.  The Borough comprises of Accrington and surrounding Market Towns and is currently experiencing unprecedented levels of regeneration which is delivering real and substantial improvements to the quality of life in the area.

We have two exciting opportunities to join our Environmental Protection and Services Teams to support the Council’s aim to improve food standards and the Borough’s housing stock including the private rented sector, homes in multiple occupancy and empty homes.

Environmental Health Officer (Housing and Public Health)

£31,346 - £33,782

37 hours per week

Essential Car User Allowance

The Post holder will contribute to improving the quality of private sector housing stock within the Borough, investigating reports of sub-standard housing conditions and poor management practice.

You will be involved with the investigation and enforcement of private sector housing complaints under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System, reports of illegal eviction, and Houses in Multiple Occupancy (HMO’s) including licensing.

The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player, be competent to deal with complex case work and have very good verbal and communication skills.  You will need to be organised and motivated and be able to work on your own initiative.

The successful candidate will be suitably qualified and experienced, including the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.

Environmental Health Officer (Food & Safety)

£31,346 - £33,782 per annum/pro-rata

Full time / Flexible working arrangements will be considered

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and qualified professional to carry out food hygiene and health and safety inspections at a variety of premises within the Borough along with service requests, complaints, accident and infectious disease investigations. The role will also involve Covid19 related work such as outbreak management, prevent work and assisting with local interventions.

If you are as passionate about delivering results, we’d like to hear from you.

Applicants must have specific operational experience within the food / health and safety industry. Holding a degree in Environmental Health or equivalent or hold a higher certificate of food premises inspection and registered with EHORB you must be able to demonstrate you meet the relevant competencies detailed in the Food Law Code of Practice.

You will need to demonstrate highly effective communication skills both in person and in writing, a good working knowledge if IT systems, manage your own workload to strict deadlines. It is essential that you have a flexible attitude to working, be open to new ideas whilst ensuring the Council continues to deliver an effective and high quality service.
