Environmental Health Practitioner (Environmental Protection)

Salary: up to £36,556
Job reference: H20/11
Hours per week: 37
Location: Fleet in Hart District (NE Hampshire)
Type: Permanent
Closing Date: 9am Monday 26 October 2020

The picturesque District of Hart is based in North Hampshire and is consistently rated as the best place to live in the UK.

The Council works hard to make a positive contribution to the lives of our residents and to ensure that a decent quality of life is extended to everyone in Hart. We do this by delivering continuous improvement and innovation in delivering the services that matter most to our residents.
You will share the Council’s core values by being helpful, approachable, responsive and taking ownership of challenges and problems, while making customers feel welcome, wanted and cared for.
We would like to recruit a new Environmental Health Practitioner. The role represents a great opportunity for someone to join a small and friendly Environmental Health Team that sits within a wider innovative and enthusiastic Place Service.
The primary focus of the role will be to protect the health and wellbeing of the Community. You will be able to demonstrate: excellent communication and negotiation skills; enthusiasm; self-motivation; sound judgement; an ability to prioritise work under pressure; a proactive approach to problem solving and tackling challenges; excellent organisational skills; a commitment to excellence in customer care; and an ability to identify and act on opportunities to improve Service delivery.

As part of a small but established team, the successful candidate will carry out a diverse range of duties, including but not exhaustively:

  • Planning and Licensing consultations (Previous experience desired but not essential)
  • Statutory Nuisance investigations
  • Air Quality and Contaminated Land Management (Previous experience not essential)

Applicants applying for the role should be qualified to degree level in a relevant scientific discipline and have up to date practical knowledge and experience of applying Environmental Health law. We would be particularly keen to hear from applicants with a post graduate qualification in acoustics.  A full driving licence is essential.
Hart District Council offers: a competitive salary; an essential car allowance; free car parking; a generous leave entitlement; flexible working; and the pleasure of working within a picturesque corner of Hampshire.
