Senior Environmental Health Officer/Senior Scientific Officer

Permanent contract

Full time (37 hours per week)

Salary: £40,375 per annum

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Health Officer/ Senior Scientific Officer to join a busy and pro-active Environmental Protection Team. The team is part of the successful Mid Kent Environmental Health partnership which covers Tunbridge Wells, Swale and Maidstone Borough Councils. This post will be based at Swale Borough Council in Sittingbourne, with the opportunity to work with officers across the other districts.

The job will focus on air quality which is a high priority in Swale with some exciting plans being worked on at the current time. You will be responsible for leading on the delivery of all areas of air quality including Air Quality Action Plan measures.  You will work with consultants and developers on planning applications to achieve the best mitigation measures relating to air quality, research and prepare funding bids and strategies and ensure monitoring data is to a high quality through liaison with the Kent & Medway Air Quality Partnership. You will also be expected to contribute to the highly professional wider Mid Kent partnership on permitted processes and private water schemes.

In addition, you will also cover a wide range of environmental protection functions including Environmental Permitting, contaminated land, review of general planning and licensing applications and the investigation of nuisance from commercial premises.

You will need to hold a degree in Environmental Health or a similar science based subject and have experience of working in air quality, pollution prevention or environmental protection. You will be a good communicator and team player. You will also need to be able to work confidently on your own, showing initiative, self motivation and commitment. The position does offer the opportunity for occasional home working.
