Grade H £30,451 - £32,910 a year

Grade J £33,782 - £37,890 a year

Contract type: Two posts Permanent) and One post up to 2 years Fixed Term

Due to receiving additional funding, an exciting opportunity has arisen to expand the team in tackling criminal, rogue and irresponsible landlords who knowingly let accommodation that is unlicensed, substandard or dangerous.

Applicants are invited to join our dynamic and friendly Housing Standards Team from candidates who are qualified Environmental Health Officers/Housing Standards Officers with experience of dealing with housing standards enforcement.  However, applications will be considered from officers who are working towards their professional status (N.B. You will be paid at a lower grade until professional status is reached within an agreed time period- this can be discussed further at interview). Applicants for the Grade J post must have a proven record in a housing enforcement capacity.

The role:

You will cover a wide range of housing duties, including the enforcement of housing standards, HMOs licensing and investigation of harassment and illegal eviction of private tenants.

About you:

The successful candidates will be confident professionals with excellent practical enforcement and organisational skills. As Derby City has a wide and diverse population, you must have good communication and negotiation skills as you will be dealing with a mixed audience of residents, landlords, partner agencies and other stakeholders.  It is essential you have a good understanding of current housing legislation are competent in HHSRS and HMO licensing, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain clear and accurate records.

You will need:

  1. A degree/diploma in Environmental Health and EHRB registration or be working towards becoming a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner;

or

  1. Possess a CIEH approved Higher Certificate in Housing Practice or; a BTech in Environmental Health or; an HNC level qualification in building construction/surveying; Experience of working in the relevant Environmental Health field.

A full driving licence and use of a car is essential.
