Senior Environmental Health Officer (Covid-19)

Fixed term (full time) post for sixteen months

Salary: £32,910 to £36,922, plus market supplement of £3500 and essential car user allowance (£1,239 per annum).

We are looking to recruit a Senior Environmental Health Officer in a fixed term position for a sixteen month period.

You will join a small, professional and hardworking team who support each other in delivering the team’s food safety, health & safety and infectious disease functions to protect the health and wellbeing of the public.

The role covers extensive and varied subject matter and offers the chance for you to utilise a wide range of skills and knowledge, to manage your own workload, as well as the day to day work of a technician.  A key role within this post will be to lead on the Council’s Covid-19 prevention work and contact tracing in relation to any local outbreaks.

The office is located in the beautiful cathedral city of Chichester and much of the district is covered by areas of outstanding natural beauty or the South Downs National Park.

Whilst you will primarily be enforcing legislation relevant to the Health Protection teams remit and in particular the Covid-19 prevention work, there will be a requirement on occasion, to carry out emergency planning and other Environmental Health functions commensurate with your qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have a qualification in Environmental Health, be EHRB registered and have recent experience of working in a Local Authority setting.  The NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent is desirable.  The applicant must meet competency criteria carrying out all food safety and health and safety functions.

Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or similar professional body is essential.
