Your new role

The Council have a rare opportunity for a Regulatory Services Officer to join the Regulatory Services team in a permanent full-time role; this team offers flexible working patterns, a friendly and enthusiastic team environment and a varied work portfolio. As a Regulatory Services Officer, you will act as a source of advice and guidance in relation to Regulatory Services and related matters, including advice and guidance to the public, businesses and other members of staff. You will attend formal hearings of the Council as well as prosecution and appeal hearings before the Courts as required. The role will also require you to operate and record work carried out on departmental systems, contribute to developing and maintaining effective relationships with partners and other external bodies and support the development of a policy framework and enforcement protocols for key activities within Regulatory Services.

As a Regulatory Services Officer you will be investigating complaints, responding to planning applications and enquiries, and visiting premises within the Borough as required.   The role is a specialist for environmental protection within Regulatory Services, where you will be responsible for managing your own case load and supervising other staff members where necessary.  You will undertake a range of complex inspection and enforcement activities, which may require working evenings and weekends where required.

You will provide specialist advice and support to colleagues across the Council and to members of the public on food safety and in delivering the Council’s 2050 vision.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this position, you need to have a professional qualification in Environmental Health and/or Diploma in Acoustics / Environmental Protection, be a registered member of a relevant professional body and be able to evidence your CPD (Continuous Professional Development).

A solid knowledge of environmental protection legislation, investigation procedures and national, regional and local policies regarding regulatory service issues is a must. Experience of developing and delivery services within a policy framework is also essential. The successful candidate will have previous experience in working within a multi-disciplinary team and have practical and technical knowledge and skills relating to environmental protection.  Candidates will also be considered if they are in the earlier stages of their career and are still working towards their professional qualification, with a view to becoming a fully qualified Regulatory Services Officer in environmental protection, but this will be considered on individual basis.
