We have an exciting opportunity to gain experience and to expand your knowledge and skills working for one of the largest local authorities in the UK. We are seeking to recruit 1 permanent and 4 Temporary (12 months contract) Environmental Health Officers/Senior Technical Officers to support our Environmental Health Services.

Depending on your skills, competency and experience, the role will provide flexible operational support across the wider service including food safety, public health, animal health and welfare, environmental protection, commercial nuisance, and health and safety. You can expect a mix of casework, projects and be responsible for appropriate enforcement action.

In addition, your duties will include supporting the delivery of Environmental Health’s role in the Leeds COVID-19 Outbreak Control Plan. This includes investigation of outbreaks associated with workplaces and commercial premises, outbreak management, contact tracing, and enforcement.

You should possess excellent communication skills and have experience in managing a busy caseload. Whilst you should be able to interpret policy and legislation, a significant proportion of our work involves advice and guidance, so it’s important that you have good influencing skills and can think laterally to resolve problems and deliver outcomes.

We are looking for people who can engage with communities and businesses and have a real passion for improving public health and protecting the environment.

The successful applicant should also have the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. They will need to possess a commitment to customer care to help support and provide guidance to our partners, businesses, residents and communities. The ability to demonstrate a commitment to reducing health inequalities and a good understanding of environmental health issues is essential.

Ideally you will be an EHRB registered Environmental Health Practitioners with experience in enforcement. Applications are particularly welcomed from candidates with practical experience of food safety enforcement, the food hygiene rating scheme, and can demonstrate competency to deliver the full range of ‘Official Controls’ as detailed in the current Food Standards Agency Food Law Code of Practice. However, we will consider applications from recent graduates looking to begin their career in environmental health.

Working hours are the standard 37 hours per week with the requirement to work flexible hours to meet service requirements.

For more information or an informal discussion about the posts contact Scott Higgins on 0113 3786586 or Ruth Turner 0113 3786568.
