We are looking for an innovative and self-motivated Private Sector Housing Manager who has substantial experience in Private Sector Housing and up to date knowledge of the Housing & Planning Act & Environmental Health legislation, particularly relating to Private Sector Housing and Houses in Multiple Occupation. 

You will be responsible for leading and developing the HMO licensing scheme, inspection programs and enforcement action. You will also ensure that the high standard of regulatory work in the Private Rented Sector of Milton Keynes is maintained in order that tenants are protected and the private rented sector is a fair place to operate. 

Key Duties   

  • To ensure that private residential accommodation within Milton Keynes is safe and free of housing hazards 
  • To manage and supervise senior officers and monitor the quality and performance of work streams and review staff performance 
  • Lead and direct the investigation and preparation of cases for Civil Financial Penalties, referral for prosecuting proceedings and applications for Rent Repayment Orders 
  • To manage the budget in relation to Private Sector Housing 
  • To support the Director and the Head of Communities to develop the Council’s strategy, policies and procedures in relation to Private Sector Housing 

Experience, Qualifications and Skills required 

  • Possess the degree or diploma in Environmental Health and have a minimum of two years relevant experience in a senior managerial role in private sector housing 
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the practical application of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System 
  • CMI level 5 or above in management or equivalent experience 
  • Experience of managing complex projects and initiatives. 
  • Experience of leading, developing, motivating and managing teams of staff delivering a variety of services 
  • Experience of developing and delivering strategic plans that deliver corporate objectives 
  • Experience of managing and monitoring budgets
