Our client in South London is seeking a Environmental Protection Officer to join its team on an initial 3 month basis.

Main Purpose

- To act as lead officer for noise, air quality and contaminated land policy issues as designated. 
 
- To lead and be responsible for projects, planning and specialist work areas as assigned which relate to this area ensuring effective and efficient delivery of the relevant statutory, non-statutory and advisory functions of environmental protection

- Develop services, undertake investigations and take appropriate enforcement action as required.  

Duties

Project manage the control of environmental impacts from large scale construction projects, as assigned and to carry out the following functions, as required:
 
- To scrutinise, process and comment on applications, plans, reports, schemes and to prepare reports and Notices.
 
- Represent the Council’s interests by responding to all enquiries, including Councillors and attend public meetings.
 
- Provide progress reports to Senior Managers within the Council.
 
- Manage the financial arrangement, where necessary, for the project/s.
 
- Undertake the supervision of internal and external project staff as necessary
 
- Coordinate interdepartmental responses to enquiries.
 
- Undertake environmental surveys, monitoring, modelling and sampling programmes, as necessary.

- To be responsible for the delivery of provision within Environmental Health, Public Health and statutory Nuisance including issues such as pest control, drains etc 
 
- Review and assess reports within the context of the development control process, specialising in noise, air quality, or contaminated land as designated and commenting on other aspects such as ventilation and flood lighting schemes and other areas as required.

Experience, Knowledge and qualification 

-  Demonstrate current working knowledge of complex noise and vibration sources and / or air quality control and/or contaminated land in relation to environmental protection and development control.

- Significant experience of environmental protection work including dealing with enquiries, carrying out inspections, investigations and research of a complex nature and preparing reports and making recommendations.

- Qualified to degree/diploma level in Environmental Health with EHORB certificate of registration or equivalent relevant qualification.
