Job Description

This is an exciting time for Stevenage Borough Council, with its Local Plan recently adopted, its ambitious growth plans can start to be realised. A comprehensive town centre regeneration scheme is already underway, and is delivering on the ‘Future Town, Future Council’ strategic vision.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health professional to manage our Commercial and Licensing Team. The successful candidate will lead and develop a multi-disciplinary team of Environmental Health Officers and Licensing Officers to provide a reactive and proactive Environmental Health and Licensing Service to Stevenage’s residents and businesses. This challenging role will involve the development of relevant policy in addition to the management of day-to-day operations.

To be successful in this role, you will be EHRB registered or equivalent and hold a relevant qualification in Environmental Health. Additionally, you will have previous experience in commercial environmental health as well as alcohol, taxi and gambling licensing, and, ideally, some managerial experience. You will be organised, accurate and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative. You will have excellent organisational, communication and IT skills and flexibility in dealing with varying workloads. Experience of Idox Uniform database software is desirable. You must be willing to carry out duties at flexible times, including occasional evenings, weekends and public holidays.

This post will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
