Our client in London is recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer (Port Health) to be part of the Imported Food Team and to be responsible for enforcing European and Domestic legislation by means of enforcement, advice and education, on a long term contract.

Duties

  • To take action under all relevant legislation to protect the community, by maintaining the highest standards of safety with regards to all food and feed items imported into the UK.
  • To carry out in a professional manner the duties expected of a fully qualified and EHRB registered Environmental Health Officer both within the Imported Food Office and at the Border Inspection Post and Designated Point of Entry.
  • To undertake official statutory controls including verification of import documentation, sampling products and undertaking examinations of products.
  • To maintain a high level of knowledge of European and Domestic legislation, and other issues relating to imported food and feed.
  • Remain fully conversant with all legislation and technical developments in relation to the functions of the Imported Food Office.
  • To prepare as necessary reports and statements of evidence for legal proceedings resulting from contraventions of imported food legislation and attend court, to give evidence on behalf of the Council.
  • Undertake inspections of imported food and feed in accordance with internal procedures to ensure the Council complies fully with its responsibilities under the relevant legislation, identifying remedial action where necessary.
  • To undertake the required duties at the Imported Food Office, including acting as an authorised officer in signing Border Crossing Documents and receiving appropriate fees.
  • To examine imported food and feed to verify fitness and compliance with European and Domestic legislation. To liaise with the Official Veterinary Surgeon (OVS) in respect of products of animal origin including meat, dairy and poultry products.

Inspecting officers must hold one of the baseline qualifications, and have associated registration.

The base line qualifications are Higher Certificate in Food Control or certificate of registration or Diploma issued by Environmental Health Registration Board.

The Inspecting Officer must be able to demonstrate how they are capable of meeting the competencies relating to Inspection of Food Establishments (Cluster 4.) and have at least 10 hours of Food Core CPD as specified in the current version of the Food Law Code of Practice and Practice Guidance.

A copy of relevant qualifications, CPD certificates and certificates of registration with EHORB/EHRB must be held on file by Buckingham Futures before the contract commences.
