South Lakeland District Council is seeking to recruit a Level 2 Specialist (Environmental Health) within the Specialist (Food & Safety) Team. The post is based at the Council’s head offices in Kendal.
The successful applicant will work with the Senior Specialist (Environmental Health) and other Specialist officers, to deliver the Authority’s commitment to Food Safety and Health and Safety. They will be responsible for;

  • undertaking interventions within a wide variety of premises
  • investigation of complaints and infectious diseases
  • enforcement in line with current Regulations

They will be expected to possess and maintain a good working knowledge of practices and methodologies within these specialist areas and be able to provide sound advice to colleagues, members, external organisations and the public. They will be proactive in seeking out new opportunities to work with partner agencies and our local businesses to build on the successful work already undertaken by the team.


The successful candidate will possess a relevant degree or qualification and will also hold either Chartered status or an EHRB certificate. They will also be able to demonstrate that they have relevant and up to date Continuing Professional Development. They will require good IT skills and have the ability to research case law and good practice in the further development of this area of work.
