We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and fully qualified Environmental Health Officer to work within our busy private sector housing and pollution team. This is a small but dynamic authority aiming to achieve high standards of response to customer enquiries, inspection and enforcement work.

The work consists largely of dealing with complaints within an area of the Borough, covering all aspects of environmental health pollution and private sector housing enforcement, including responses to planning and licence applications.

You will:

  • manage your own caseload and be able to work with minimum supervision
  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • have a working knowledge of local authority data/storage and retrieval mechanisms
  • be experienced in preparing legal documents and notices
  • represent the service at meetings, inquiries and in court proceedings
  • ideally have at least two years post qualification experience

The minimum educational requirement for this post is a Degree in Environmental Health/Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent), and a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (or equivalent).

Consideration for this post will also be given to newly qualified officers who are about to complete their ELP and PPP.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate sufficient accumulation of continuing professional development in previous/current employment.  You may also be required to provide cover to deal with stray dogs in the absence of the Council’s Dog Warden.

A full, current driving licence is essential, as is the willingness to participate in out-of-hours work, for which additional payment will be made. Free office parking and a district permit are also provided.

For an informal discussion please contact David Carter on 01277 312500.
