About us
The London boroughs of Kingston and Sutton have come together to create an ambitious and forward-looking shared environment service, covering Regulatory Services and Highways & Transport functions.

With a focus on delivering high quality frontline services, this innovative partnership plays its role in creating sustainable communities, with a high quality environment that can be enjoyed by all.

About the role
The post is offered as a two-tier career grade post with the starting salary being dependant on skills and experience.
We are seeking a competent, professional with experience in Environmental Health or Housing Standards to join our busy residential team. We work as a shared service across Kingston and Sutton and deal with all aspects of residential environmental health. A typical day could see you dealing with housing standards, public health problems, noise or environmental nuisance, HMO licensing (including an additional licensing scheme); or working with some of our partners to tackle poor housing standards, fire safety, anti-social behaviour and fuel poverty.

About you
As a high performing, front-line service we are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative officer who will look to challenge conventional ways of delivering services and provide solutions for the benefit of our residents. We would expect you to be flexible in your approach, a good communicator and have the ability to work on your own initiative as well as being part of the team. Experience with either Civica APP or Idox Uniform software is desirable. While the experience of enforcing private sector housing standards and HHSRS training or residential nuisance is desirable, consideration will be given to those who are recently qualified or have relevant experience.

While there is a need for flexibility, there is no requirement to work unsocial hours. In return, we offer a supportive friendly environment with a varied workload and a commitment to personal development to enable you to fulfil your potential.

Benefits we offer
The Boroughs have good access to central London and our offices are a short walk from the station based in the middle of a vibrant high street next.

The successful candidate will have access to a wide range of staff benefits, some of which include:

  • 26 - 29 days annual leave - In addition you will receive 8 statutory bank holidays
  • Local government pension scheme
  • Interest free season loan ticket
  • Cycle to work and Zip Car Scheme
  • Discounts on a range of local shops, restaurants, gyms and leisure centres
  • Comprehensive Learning and Development programme
  • A forward thinking and networked organisation where employee’s views are valued.
  • Modern and flexible working environment allowing employees to benefit from agile working practices.

Apply
To apply please complete our online application form, making sure you provide a supporting statement outlining what skills, experience and abilities you can bring. Please ensure you refer to the role profile when completing your supporting statement.

The Royal Borough of Kingston is Disability Confident Committed.  We guarantee to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the advertised role and ensure that our recruitment and selection process is inclusive and accessible.  We particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates as they are under represented within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.

The Royal Borough of Kingston and London Borough of Sutton are key partners and have adopted an approach based on strategic collaboration. This has already resulted in a number of shared services including ICT and this Environment Service, and further opportunities are being explored. The Shared Service operates from both council offices and you may be expected to work in either borough.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Austen Lucas, Lead Officer on 020 8770 5583
