An Excellent Opportunity...

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

We are looking to recruit an Environmental Health Officer / Enforcement Officer preferably with experience of environmental public health/environmental enforcement. Working within a small team which also has air quality and contaminated land duties, you will be engaged in investigating and enforcement of environmental matters such as private drainage, filthy and verminous premises, hoarding and prevention of damage by pests.

The successful post holder will have their own case load, responding to and investigating complainants, identifying root causes of drainage and pest problems and preparing detailed specification for legal notices where necessary. You will work with other stakeholders to bring about solutions to filthy and verminous properties or hoarding cases. The role involves accurate recording of information, keeping customers up to date, preparing legal cases, ensuring full cost recovery of any enforcement action and working closely with the Council’s busy Pest Control service to eradicate pests and vermin.

The Person

We are looking for a fully qualified environmental health officer (or similar professional qualification) with experience in dealing with environmental issues that impact on local residents. The person must have a positive 'can do' approach to problem solving and be willing to work on occasions with residents and home owners outside of usual office hours to resolve issues taking enforcement action where necessary.

Applicants must have excellent communication and influencing skills, be able to work using their own initiative and know how to prioritise and balance a demanding workload.

Closing Date: 10 November 2019 (23:00)
