Calderdale is situated in Yorkshire nestling in the South Pennines. It is an area of rich cultural heritage, impressive architecture, stunning landscapes and charming towns and villages. With excellent road and rail links and within easy reach of Leeds and Manchester, Calderdale is a great place to live, work and visit.

Calderdale has a vision for 2024 as a place where you can realise your potential whoever you are.

Calderdale Council has just completed a fundamental cross council review of enforcement and is currently implementing a holistic problem solving approach based on engagement, education and enforcement in order to deliver better outcomes for communities.

This new approach will bring together, under a single service lead, many of the Council services that include enforcement as part of their statutory and non–statutory duties.

Calderdale Council is looking for a highly motivated individual who is ideally fully qualified and/ or have recent and relevant experience of working in an either or both an Animal Welfare or Environmental Health setting.

You will be responsible for day to day delivery of the Animal Health & Welfare function working alongside a team of professional and technical staff within Environmental Health. As part of the wider Community Protection Team you will be working alongside officers who have responsibility for other elements of the new enforcement approach thus providing resilience and inter-operability across all enforcement activity within Calderdale Council.

It is critical that the successful applicant will be able to show an aptitude for this type of work and ideally a high level of competence and experience in Animal Health & Welfare. Close working with partners both statutory and within the voluntary and community sector is seen as a must for this role.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated and forward thinking officer who is thrives in working as part of a team environment which is committing to driving forward the service in challenging times.

If you are looking for a unique opportunity to gain further experience and knowledge in Animal Health & Welfare as well as the wider enforcement environmental agenda such as Pollution, Food Safety, Housing, Licensing, Anti-social Behaviour and Community Safety then you are looking in the right place.

For an informal discussion about the above post, please contact Derek Benn, Service Lead for the Community Protection Team, via email derek.benn@calderdale.gov.uk.
