Our client in Lancashire is recruit for an experienced Environmental Manager (Private Sector Housing & Environmental Protection) on an interim basis.

Duties

  • To be responsible and accountable for the performance of the Environmental Protection Team by agreeing targets with relevant staff, monitoring their achievement and implementing Council policy within approved budgets.
  • To lead and be responsible for developing, implementing and delivering the Council’s private sector housing strategy and policy.
  • To lead and be responsible for services in relation to pollution control, including air quality, noise, environmental blight, etc.
  • To lead and be responsible for services in relation to the private rented sector.
  • To be the lead officer under the Council’s Scheme of Delegation for implementing and applying legislation in relation to Environmental Protection.
  • To contribute to the preparation and implementation of business/service plans as appropriate
  • To take an overview of Environmental Protection issues and provide professional advice and leadership to Team members, the Council and its service area; also to act a lead officer in relation to identified high risk industrial processes and other pollution work as is deemed necessary.
  • To lead and be responsible for and effectively manage the Council’s public health, private sector housing, travellers site, environmental protection, air and noise pollution regulations, animal welfare and destitute death service.
  • To lead and be responsible for the implementation and delivery of national and local relevant strategies, as determined by statute or Council policy including air quality or other initiatives.
  • To be responsible for managing the Contaminated Land Strategy and annual landfill gas monitoring programme.
  • To be responsible for budgets for the service areas for which the post holder has responsibility.
  • Prepare reports and discussion documents for the Leader, Cabinet, etc. and Service Heads as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Environmental Health Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
  • Experience of managing a professional team, especially environmental health related.
  • Minimum five years environmental health experience, preferably at management level
