Environmental Protection Manager

Our client in Lancashire is recruiting for an experienced Environmental Protection Manager on an interim basis to start asap.

Duties

1. To be responsible and accountable for the performance of the Environmental Protection Team by agreeing targets with relevant staff, monitoring their achievement and implementing Council policy within approved budgets. To lead and be responsible for developing, implementing and delivering the Council’s private sector housing strategy and policy. To lead and be responsible for services in relation to pollution control, including air quality, noise and environmental blight. To lead and be responsible for services in relation to the private rented sector. To be the lead officer under the Council’s Scheme of Delegation for implementing and applying legislation in relation to Environmental Protection. To contribute to the preparation and implementation of business/service plans as appropriate. To take an overview of Environmental Protection issues and provide professional advice and leadership to Team members, the Council and its service area; also to act a lead officer in relation to identified high risk industrial processes and other pollution work as is deemed necessary. To lead and be responsible for and effectively manage the Council’s public health, private sector housing, travellers site, environmental protection, air and noise pollution regulations, animal welfare and destitute death service. To lead and be responsible for the implementation and delivery of national and local relevant strategies, as determined by statute or Council policy including air quality or other initiatives. To be responsible for managing the Contaminated Land Strategy and annual landfill gas monitoring programme. To be responsible for budgets for the service areas for which the post holder has responsibility. Prepare reports and discussion documents for the Leader, Cabinet, etc. and Service Heads as required.

Qualifications and Experience

1. Environmental Health Degree or equivalent qualification Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Experience of managing a professional team, especially environmental health related. Minimum five years environmental health experience, preferably at management level.
