Exmouth Town Hall

Full time, fixed term for up to 2 years
About us
East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding. Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy. Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.
About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Private Sector Housing team for a Technical Officer. In this interesting and varied role, you'll be responsible for, and lead on the delivery and promotion of our Devon Wide Housing Assistance Policy, carrying out visits, assessing properties and designing schemes to enable vulnerable people to ensure that their homes are safe and healthy.
You'll also help and support the team to deliver the whole service in an effective, transparent and efficient manner, ensuring that that our focus is on our customers.
About you
With a good standard of education, you'll have a BTEC/NVQ Level 4/Diploma (or equivalent qualification) in an accredited environmental health course or related subject such as housing or health care. A suitable surveyor/architect qualification would be an advantage but is not essential. You'll also have practical experience of delivering grants, adaptations and housing assistance projects.
You'll be a confident communicator and highly organised, with the ability to effectively prioritise your own workload and remain calm under pressure. You must be able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, and have good attention to detail, particularly as you will be working within a busy office.
A driving licence is essential to this role as you'll need to travel as required (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).
