We are looking for a number of enthusiastic, innovative and motivated individuals to join us and work across the council’s Regulation and Enforcement service. Opportunities exist within both the Licensing & Environmental Protection and Commercial Regulatory teams.

Principal Officer – Regulation (Commercial Regulatory team)

As our Principal Officer - Regulation, you will provide a strategic and operational lead role for a small multidisciplinary team covering a range of statutory regulatory functions in the fields of environmental health and trading standards including food safety and standards, infectious disease control, health & safety, fair trading, weights & measures, counterfeit and illicit goods and financial exploitation.
You will have detailed specialist knowledge of at least one of these areas of work.
You will also have a lead role in the team's commercialisation agenda through exploring opportunities for commercial work and supporting colleagues in the wider Regulation & Enforcement Services in such activities. You may also be required to help support service delivery within the busy Port Health section of the team.
You will be supported in your role by the Commercial Regulatory Manager and work in conjunction with the Principal Officer - Port Health. The successful applicant will play a lead role in the integration of food safety and standards work within the team and explore other opportunities for more effective regulatory service delivery.
You will hold a degree level or equivalent qualification, accredited by either the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or Chartered Trading Standards Institute and be willing to maintain continuous professional development. A management qualification and supervisory experience would be advantageous.

Food Safety Officer (Commercial Regulatory team)

As our Food Safety Officer, you will work as part of the team to provide an operational role around food safety matters undertaking the inspection of C, D and E rated food businesses.
You will enforce Food Hygiene and Standards, Communicable Disease, Health & Safety, Public Health and some Port Health legislation as you will also be required to help support service delivery within the busy Port Health section of the team.
You will be supported in your role by a technical lead in food safety and port health along with a Principal Officer - Regulation and Principal Officer - Port Health.
The successful applicant will play an active role in securing food safety compliance within the borough.
You will hold a Higher Certificate in Food Control (equivalent to HNC level) or equivalent qualification and experience recognised by the FSA +/or Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) to conduct food official control and relevant qualification (e.g. NEBOSH certificate) in relation to Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare.
You will also be committed to continuing personal and professional development including maintaining authorised officer competencies and CPD requirements of the Statutory Food Law Code of Practice.

Environmental Protection Officer (Licensing and Environmental Protection team)

As our Environmental Protection Officer, you will work as part of the team to provide an operational role to enforce relevant environmental legislation pertaining to the protection of air, land, controlled waters and drinking water standards.
The team will also receive and investigate complaints and service requests relating to domestic noise and commercial statutory nuisance through monitoring, enforcing and education.
You will have detailed specialist knowledge of statutory and regulatory frameworks relevant to commercial statutory nuisance or domestic noise as you will be expected to play a key role in the implementation and delivery of a new residential noise service being introduced by the team.
You will be supported in your role by the Senior Environmental Protection Officer and the Licensing and Environmental Protection Manager.
You will hold Diploma/HND in a relevant environmental discipline i.e. air, land or water, or equivalent knowledge skills and experience and be committed to your continuous personal and professional development
