Newport is a vibrant, new city with a bold vision to create a place where people choose to live, work and stay. Newport City Council’s success can be attributed to our forward thinking, positive approach. It’s what enables us to deliver high-quality services that are continuously improving.

Environmental Health is pleased to be able to offer a full time post on a Permanent basis, within its Housing team.

You will need to show you have experience in a relevant field, in-depth knowledge and experience of housing defects and remedies, the ability to survey properties and report on findings and hold a relevant HNC, HND or degree. The post requires you to demonstrate you have effective communication and negotiation skills; be able to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with people. You will also need to show you have an ability to organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines and prove you possess good IT skills.

This role includes responding to service requests from private sector tenants regarding housing conditions and public health, conducting programmed inspections of licensed Houses in Multiple Occupation; HMO, surveying properties in order to progress them through the HMO licensing process, producing schedules of work and assisting colleagues with enforcement work to improve standards in houses. Such enforcement work will also include nuisance and public health related functions.

We have a successful Additional HMO Licensing Scheme, which is now in its third term and we work close with Rent Smart Wales enforcing the Housing (Wales) Act 2014.

It is clear that we can offer a wide range of experience and challenges to the successful applicant.

In return for your commitment we offer an open, friendly working environment with modern working practices and systems. Benefits include a generous annual leave entitlement, professional development, flexible and agile working and free on-site parking.
