Job Description

You will provide assurance to the MOD with regard to legal requirements and minimum mandatory standards for infrastructure finishes, services and equipment for MOD catering facilities, that the facilities are fit for purpose and provide value for money. To act as a focal point for Catering Infrastructure and equipment issues for MOD. To provide intelligent customer advice to the Authority including other environmental health specialists.

You will be undertaking Audits (infrastructure inspections) in a unique catering environment and will have the opportunity to experience working with colleagues in unusual settings, learning about the distinctive requirements of the military estate. You will have the opportunity to broaden your professional network and input into improving policy and practice within the Environmental Health Field.

The post covers catering infrastructure in the UK and overseas and hence the opportunity may occur for travel overseas.

Technical Services provides the Department’s intelligent customer capability for our specialist subject areas; we are an in-house resource established to support the business in its projects and offer Technical advice. We supervise, monitor and judge whether deliverables and activities of contractors meet the requirements of the contract, legal duties and MOD Policy in relation to Engineering, Construction, Health, Safety and Environmental protection.

Main Responsibilities

1. Provide assurance to the Authority of compliance with legal and mandatory requirements, facilities are fit for purpose and provide value for money through the implementation of MOD policy relating to catering infrastructure including Policy Instruction and Building Performance Standards.

2. Support where requested the Technical Authority for all matters relating to catering infrastructure design and use.

3. Undertake design reviews of plans relating to new and refurbished catering infrastructures, providing SME advice on compliance with the legal and mandatory standards of the design layouts.

4. Undertake audits of catering facilities as part of an audit programme.

5. Where directed, issue Determinations against deviations from standards incorporated with Policy Instruction and BPS as appropriate.

Essential Experience

1. Proven relevant experience of auditing/inspecting commercial catering environments and assessing catering facilities against current food, health and safety, waste and other relevant legislation.

2. Experience of Environmental Health procedures, best practice, rectification works and escalation protocols.

3. Knowledge of commercial catering equipment and design.

4. A wider working understanding of other Environmental Health disciplines.
