We are looking for an exceptional, keen and enthusiastic professional to head up our successful and dynamic Public Protection service.

Being a strategic thinker, you will have proven experience of translating your ideas into practical delivery, and will have successfully led transformation and change projects. You will plan and deliver cost effective services and provide leadership, management and support to line managers and their teams, ensuring clarity of direction, effective communication and demonstrate working within the Council’s Values.

You will provide professional leadership and take the strategic role in managing the Public Protection service including;

  • Environmental Health
  • Licensing
  • Environmental Enforcement
  • Anti-Social Behaviour
  • Community Safety / Safeguarding
  • Housing Standards
  • Civil Contingencies

Educated to degree level or equivalent and/or management qualifications, you will have significant experience of planning and developing a strong management culture of continuous improvement, a focus on performance, great customer experience and experience in leading a regulatory Public Protection service.

Earlier this year Lancaster City Council unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working Monday to Friday, with a flexi time system in operation. Due to the nature of the work carried out by the service, there may be a requirement for occasional weekend working.

This is a politically restricted post in accordance with the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

Whilst the administrative base for this role will be Morecambe Town Hall, the successful candidate will be required to travel and work at other Council and external agency sites across the district.
