Technical Officer (Air Quality Solid Fuel Project)

Salary: G - £25,295 - £28,785 per annum

Location: Sefton

Contract: Temporary

Working Pattern: Full Time

Hours: 36 hours per week.

DBS Check: No

Reference: CD/19/105239

Fixed Term until 1st April 2021

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council is situated between the Mersey and Ribble estuaries and has a coastline of 22 miles.  It is the most northerly of the five Metropolitan Districts in Merseyside and possibly the most diverse in character.  To the north is the classic Victorian holiday resort and shopping centre of Southport and to the south are Bootle, Litherland, Netherton and Seaforth which experience many of the problems associated with older inner city areas.  Between lie the pleasant suburban areas of Crosby, Maghull, Aintree, Lydiate and Formby, high quality agricultural land and a dune coastline of outstanding scientific and recreational importance.

Improving Air Quality in the Borough is seen as a priority by the Council and after successfully obtaining an Air Quality Grant from DEFRA a temporary fixed term Technical Officer post exists within the Environmental Health Commercial Section.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake and project manage a solid domestic fuel use behavior change project with the overall aim to reduce the levels of particulate matter emitted from domestic fires and wood burners.

The post holder should have a keen interest in Air quality and ideally a science based degree or relevant professional qualification. They would need to be able to work to tight deadlines, be organised, an efficient project manager, produce high quality reports and be able to engage with members of the community and other key stakeholder. There will also be the opportunity to get involved with the other air quality work ongoing in the Borough.

Equal Opportunities

Please note that all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for these jobs (as given in the Person Specification) and who want to apply under the Disability Confident Scheme will be invited to interview.
