Starting salary £32,878 - £33,799 per annum depending on qualifications / experience (potentially rising to £37,849 through annual Performance Review awards)

Here in West Suffolk we are setting the pace nationally for transforming local government and investing in our communities and businesses.  We are part of the UK economic engine and have earned a national reputation for being an organisation that is progressive, gets things done and that influences Government. We have several ongoing major projects, including our ‘Barley Homes’ Housing Company, and a culture that seeks to continually evolve under our growth agenda.

In order to deliver our priorities, we are looking for an individual that fits in with our core values and beliefs, and who is flexible in their approach to work with a ‘can do’ attitude, hardworking, enthusiastic and confident.

Working within the Housing Standards team you will be expected to manage your own caseload, investigating and enforcing the full range of legislation across public health and housing. We have a Civil Sanctions Policy in place to give a range of enforcement tools, and we are exploring other suitable sanctions to control rogue landlords.

Supporting the service delivery, you will take a lead coordinating role on a key priority area within the private rented sector. We have been progressively developing the pro-active nature of our work and you will be key to this continuing.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified professional with experience in housing enforcement, HHSRS assessments and projects. It would be desirable if you had some experience in relation to intelligence led enforcement.

Site visits are required in a large rural area and so the suitable candidate will need to hold a current driving licence.

If you have the experience, skills and behaviours to embrace the opportunities that working in such a dynamic environment brings, then we can offer you a challenging, supported and always interesting workplace.  In addition, our benefits package includes a generous pension scheme, flexible working arrangements, learning & development opportunities and discounts on supermarkets and high street shops, cashback on holidays, cycle to work scheme and money off household bills and much more.

For further information please contact Andy Newman (Service Manager, Housing Standards) on 01638 719276 or andrew.newman@westsuffolk.gov.uk

Closing date:  Monday 9 September 2019

Interview date:  Wednesday 18 September 2019

We are committed to equal opportunities in employment and to safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share these commitments.
