Food and Safety Team - Team Leader and Senior Officer roles

Two exciting opportunities have arisen to fill the leadership roles in one of the highest performing food and safety teams in the country.

We have a permanent Food and Safety Team Leader role and a temporary Senior Food and Safety Environmental Health Officer role (maternity cover for a minimum of six months).

The Food and Safety Team is a busy and forward-looking team working across South Oxfordshire District Council and Vale of White Horse District Council. We work with a wide range of businesses from town centre take-aways to Michelin restaurants, from rural artisan producers to approved manufacturers.

The team consistently achieve their objectives and targets in relation to national food inspection targets, proactive health and safety inspections, customer satisfaction and enforcement activity. To lead this team you will have to maintain this exceptional level of performance as well as have the ability and motivation to develop new areas of working and improve existing ones. Current initiatives include taking advantage of technology such as paperless mobile and digital ways of working, including the use of tablets for inspections, developing our social media and communications content, improving our Primary Authority offering and designing paid-for commercialised services.

The Food and Safety Team Leader sets the team’s direction and has overall managerial, professional and financial responsibility for the work of the team.

The Senior Officer Food and Safety Environmental Health Officer role provides the specialist technical and professional lead and has management responsibility for over half of the team.

Both roles require someone who is enthusiastic, dedicated, has a strong customer service ethos and is driven to achieve targets. You will be a strong and supportive leader and manager with excellent time management skills. Both roles benefit from our annualised hours scheme and remote working policies. As well as one of the most flexible working environments in local government we ensure that everyone in the team has opportunities to develop their career and professional skills and meet any CPD needs.
