Head of Environmental Health and Licensing - (Ref: 1K180P)

Salary up to £55,000 p.a. (possibly more for the right candidate)

Broxbourne Council is award winning, achieving recognition for its entrepreneurial vision and culture.  It is currently making significant investment in a council-wide transformation, putting the customer at the heart of all its services.

Broxbourne currently has an exciting and unique opportunity for a dynamic, ambitious, professionally qualified Environmental Health professional to head up our Environmental Health and Licensing teams.

The post holder will initially take responsibility for a small group of existing professional and technical staff dealing with housing standards, food safety, environmental protection, licensing, and health and safety activities. A key task will be to evaluate the existing arrangements, assess the needs of the service and create a modern structure which is fit for purpose to face the challenges of the future.  The post would ideally suit someone who has experience beyond Environmental Health or who has ambitions to progress their career and lead a wider group of services in the future.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the highest level of technical expertise, proven management experience and knowledge of new and proposed legislation. Applicants must possess a relevant degree and post graduate qualification with at least three years’ experience gained at management level. They must also have excellent organisational, communication and IT skills.

The ability to converse confidently and calmly with a wide group of stakeholders and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership of the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, and golf membership, plus a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.

Broxbourne Council is an Equal Opportunities employer.
