Working hours –  36.25 Hours per week

As the Team Leader you will be responsible for leading the Environmental Health team in enforcing a wide range of environmental health legislation, including food safety and standards, health and safety at work, infectious disease control, public health, and animal health & welfare.

Trafford is home to the Trafford Park industrial estate, the INTU Trafford Centre, Manchester United Football Club and Lancashire County Cricket Club.

You will be responsible for managing the activities of a team of six EHOs, who carry out proactive regulatory interventions, undertake formal enforcement action, give advice to businesses (including through the primary authority scheme), as well as undertaking investigations into complaints, accidents and food poisoning outbreaks. You will also be responsible for supervising the contracted out Animal Health & Welfare Service.

Applicants must have a degree or diploma in Environmental Health and be EHRB registered. As the Council’s lead specialist officer for food and health & safety enforcement, you will also have a significant and broad range of experience, together with excellent specialist knowledge, relevant to these areas of work. Experience with safety at sports grounds will also be an advantage.

This is a great opportunity for an existing team leader, or an experienced officer who is looking to take the next step in their career. Excellent written and communication skills are essential as you will be interacting with businesses, the general public, partner agencies, other Council officers and elected members.

Trafford’s Environmental Health team is part of the wider Regulatory Services, which is based at the recently rebuilt Town Hall in Stretford, and you will report to the Regulatory Services Manager (Environmental Health). A flexible hours working policy is in place and some unsocial hours working is required on occasions.
